VIKINGS IN SEARCH OF HERITAGE

Rugby League followers aim to establish a museum to celebrate the games heritage in Halton.

 Vikings supporter from the Widnes Rugby League heritage group are searching for a permanent venue but in the meantime they intend to hold a number of temporary exhibitions.Their efforts are being supported by Widnes Vikings board of directors, the Rugby Football League and amateur clubs along with Halton Borough Council’s community development team and its culture and leisure service department. All aspects of the game, both professional and amateur in Widnes and Runcorn will be marked and a small collection has already been put together.   The group is now turning to the public is an effort to equip the museum with exhibits to complement those owned by Widnes Vikings as well as the group.

 Anyone who has interesting memories, memorabilia or souvenirs no matter what size and is willing to loan or donate them to the museum is encouraged to get in touch. Debbie Townsend, secretary of the group said ‘it’s likely that which artefacts form the very early years have not survived, memories surely have.  If your father or grandfather played rugby league in the borough, for example then we want to hear from you.
