Valhalla Foundation

The Valhalla Foundation is developing its community relations through a number of projects and initiatives based in and around the surrounding areas of Widnes and Runcorn.

They deliver rugby league core skill coaching within schools both during and after school. The after school coaching in particular is designed to culminate in a tournament where the children can showcase their new skills. There have also been several very competitive curtain raisers  to first team matches at the Stobart Stadium following the work done within schools.

Alongside traditional rugby coaching John Foran and Tim Holmes also deliver several classroom based lessons such as Vikings Against Bullying (A four week project that sees first team players visit a school and deliver an anti-bullying lesson which includes circle time, tactics and role play) Healthy Eating ( A 90 minute lesson using an interactive quiz, circuit session and fruit tasting to teach children the importance of making the right nutritional choices and maintaining an active lifestyle), Viking History Lesson (An interactive lesson that teaches the children the Viking way of life and brings the Vikings back to life from Valhalla) and Thinking about your Future (Lesson encouraging children to set goals and be the best they can, including video clips and thought provoking discussions).

The Foundation also has a strong partnership with the Widnes Rugby League Museum in which pupils have a tour of the rugby club and have a look at what really goes on behind the scenes. The children are shown the pitch, the gym and office areas and are also given the opportunity to meet and speak to people who work for the club and finish their tour with a visit to the Widnes Rugby League Museum
